Your RDA Consulting Team

RDA consulting has experienced geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, civil engineers and environmental consultants.

The three Directors of the firm are Leigh Mathieson, Ross Cottier and Tony Hammington. 

Mark Adam

Mark Adam

Engineering Geologist - BSc (Geol), Professional Masters of Engineering Geology (PMEG), DipGrad Computer Science

Mark joined RDA in January 2021. Originally from Milton, Mark started his career as a Fire Fighter in the RNZAF, before an interest in earth science led to studying a Bachelor of Science in Geology at the University of Otago. Afterwards, Mark went to work in Western Australia as a Mineral Exploration Geologist for several years. 

On return to New Zealand, he completed a Computer Science Diploma for Graduates. He has worked as a contract geologist and a quarry worker, obtaining a B-Grade quarry manager’s certificate.

Looking to get back to a more geology-based role and acquiring an interest in engineering geology he completed his Master of Professional Engineering Geology post graduate studies at the University Canterbury in 2020.

Abdul Al Waaili

Graduate Engineering Geologist - Bachelor of Science (Geology)

Abdul joined RDA in March 2024 as a Graduate Engineering Geologist. Abdul completed his Bachelor of Science (Geology) at University of Otago with a passion to increase his knowledge in Geotechnical Field.

Having had the opportunity to study abroad at Otago University, he came from Oman with enthusiasm about studying New Zealand’s geology and the mechanics of rock formations.

He’s excited to be part of the team and to apply his skills in real-world situations in order to deliver client satisfaction.

During the weekends you will usually find him tramping or “lost in nature”.

Mark Simpson

Civil Engineer NZDE (Civil)

Mark joined RDA in June 2022. After completing his Diploma in Civil Engineering at Otago Polytechnic he has worked for numerous civil construction and engineering consultancy companies as well as local authorities both in New Zealand and Australia.

“Since settling in Invercargill I have worked with both the Invercargill City and Southland District Councils undertaking infrastructure design and project management work, mainly around Three Waters, which included the first stage of the Branxholme water supply mains duplication.

Previously to working for RDA I have been employed as a contracts manager for a local construction company which included being the site manager for the installation of underground services on a large dairy plant build as well as tendering and managing numerous civil infrastructure works.

I look forward to using my knowledge and experience at RDA to assist clients in achieving their desired outcomes.”

Jim Tawaketini

Civil Engineer - NZDE (Civil), Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil)

Jim joined RDA in September 2023 as a Civil Engineer. Jim, or JT as he is also known, completed his NZ Diploma in Engineering (Civil) at Unitec in Auckland. He then transferred down to Otago Polytechnic where he did another year to achieve his Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil).

JT’s working career started as a graduate technician where he undertook QA for various roading contracts, working his way up to Design Engineer where his focus was on roading projects which varied from retaining walls, new road layouts to standard “road rehab” projects. JT’s next role as a Contract Manager for a Contracting company (who held the local council’s roading maintenance contract) was to run the day-to-day activities of the siteworks crew. These roles have helped JT gain a lot of knowledge and experience which he is looking forward to bringing to the RDA team.

Sol Kim - Senior Environmental Planning Consultant

Sol Kim

Senior Environmental Planning Consultant - Bachelor of Environmental Management

Sol joined RDA Consulting in April 2024 as a Senior Environmental Planning Consultant. 

Having emigrated from South Korea to New Zealand with his family at a young age, he grew up in the Waikato and Canterbury and later completed a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management at the Southern Institute of Technology in Invercargill.

Prior to joining RDA Consulting, Sol worked at Environment Southland as a Consents Officer for nearly five years.

During this time, he gained experience in navigating the regional and national planning frameworks to assess applications for resource consents, while achieving practical solutions that are beneficial for both the applicants and the environment.

“I look forward to using my knowledge and experience to secure the necessary resource consents for my clients and address any related environmental matters”.

In his spare time, Sol enjoys keeping active and spending time with his friends and family.

Brad Trebilcock

Environmental Consultant - Bachelor of Environmental Management

Brad joined RDA in August 2023. Originally from Westport is family moved to Mosgiel when he was little and he’s lived on a sheep and beef farm ever since. 

Whilst completing a Bachelor of Environmental Management at Lincoln University he worked as an artificial breeding technician for Livestock Improvement for 4 years in Canterbury and South Otago. Since graduating, he has worked as a Consents Planner with the Otago Regional Council processing Consent Application for stakeholders across the Otago Region.

In his spare time he enjoys being out on the farm, tramping, or going for a run.

Kathy joined RDA in May 2022 after deciding to leave Auckland to be closer to her Southland-based daughter and her family. Kathy has worked in accounting based roles for the past 3 decades (a mixture of CA office and private training provider) and enjoys the variety of work that comes with running a small business. 

In her spare time Kathy is a member of GirlGuidingNZ and enjoys reading, gardening and handcrafts.
